Clean surface of all debris and fixed material, using pressurised water with acid chemical and detergent. Concrete tiles need all of the old paint [usually powder coated from manufacture] and dust removed, inch by inch.
I stand on top of the roof, with my rope harnessed to the other side of the house and have my boy follow me below with the water blaster. One hand on the gun, the other on the descender rope-gripper. A 100m roof can take upto a day. Of course this time will elongate if steep roofing/tough access, wet weather, winds. Sometime cranes or scaffolding are needed to give access that my 7m ladder cannot safely provide.
Concrete tiles need replacing if damaged and cracked mortar needs filling or replacement. Steel roofs need their nails/screws checked and replaced if necessary, along with rustproofing any corrosion and grinding back any bubbled paint from the previous treatment [since it could be rusty underneath].
Smooth any rough surfaces. Use air blower to fully clear the roof of all debris. Use Primer Sealer paint on any bare metal surfaces. Have a break, it's now time for the first coat - dry weather at above 12'C is needed for 4 hours. Tomorrow.
Rinse down roof surface with light detergent followed by water, allow to dry. 7am is a good time to do this, then pop out and have coffee and cake as the roof dries for the first coat. You need no rain until after lunchtime.
Spray the first coat on the roof, primarily horizonal strokes with the wand from below. Use a nook roller to coat edge tiles. Return next clear morning.
Fill any visable cracks/holes evident upon inspection, use air blower to clear debris. Spray second coat of paint in primarily vertical sweep.
Third coat ! This will only be about 15% of your total paint consumption, it just helps give less of a patchy appearance from afar with some concrete tiled roofs. Application is very light, with a predominant application angle from expected viewpoints surrounding the property.
Guttering gets painted by a nook roller.
Touch-ups. This includes the flashings of the roof, I enjoy lying on my front and hanging my head and shoulder over the edge, to hit 'that spot' whilst holding my breath and trying not to look down.
